Thursday, 02 March 2006 Outgoing Luweero LC 5 chairman Hajji Abdul Nadduli has petitioned the Electoral commission over academic papers of his opponent Ronald Ndawula. Ndawula was recently declared Luweero LC5 chairman unopposed after Nadduliâs nomination was cancelled on grounds of academic qualifications. Nadduli through his lawyers, Lukwago and Company Advocates now claims Ronald Ndawula also lacks the required qualifications. He says the US based Rochville University, Ndawula claims to have attained his degree is not accredited by the American government. He also says that Ndawula is not fit for public office because last year he tried to hire a mercenary to sit UNEB exams on his behalf at Everest College Luweero. However Ndawula says his academic papers were verified by the National Council for Higher Education and that Nadduli should stop wasting his time and money. He adds that Nadduli should swallow the âbitt
er
pillâ and join him in working for Luweero. Nadduliâs camp has also been accusing Maj. James Kinobe of destabilizing Luweero by petitioning candidature of Nadduli and Ndawula. However Kinobe refutes the allegations and advises Nadduli to accept defeat and stop discrediting him amongst the population. |

Thursday, 02 March 2006 The Electoral Commission chairman has blamed government, for the low voter turn up in todayâs district local council elections. Speaking to Radio Simba in Kampala, Kiggundu said that government delayed to declare Thursday a public holiday.
The state minister for information James Nsaba Buturo said that Thursday would be a normal working day. But that information was later cancelled by a late hour declaration by President Museveni that Thursday would be a public holiday.
Most offices, schools and business centers in Kampala were open to normal business today.
Kiggundu says that government should have declared the public holiday much earlier, to enable people remain at home and vote for their candidates.
Kiggundu said that he was disappointed, that few people have turned up for the elections.
He however noted, that most v
oters
become less enthusiastic to local elections, after they have voted in the presidential and parliamentary elections. |
