| Soroti HEAVILY armed policemen and soldiers raided Eneku Village Guest House on Wednesday. The Forum for Democratic Change General Secretary, Ms Alice Alaso (below), had spent a night at the guest house. The incident occurred at midnight and soldiers spent about seven hours at the premises. The District Police Commander, Mr Pius Mutabazi, who commanded the operation, said they had received information that Alaso and other FDC leaders had planned to meet at the guest house. He said they were planning to influence the local council elections which were conducted on Thursday. Mutabazi said Alaso was reportedly infl uencing voters prior to the election day. Alaso said the security officers ordered the guest house security guard to open the gate, but he refused. They called me to come and open the gate but I refused. I told them that I had no powers to do that. They cut the fence and entered the premises illegally, Alaso said. Drama On Thursday morning, there was free drama when Alaso attacked Mutabazi. DPC, you are idle and disorderly. If I had my police I would have ordered them to arrest you and charge you with being idle and disorderly. How can you bring policemen to spend a night looking for Alaso? she asked. Why do you waste the taxpayers money on the loser's motives, Alaso said. Have this handbag. Please search it and get the money I have been giving out to voters. The keys to my room are here. Go search it and get the money," Alaso said. The DPC, who looked confused, refused to take the handbag and tried to plead with Alaso who had lost her cool. Its not like that. We just want to prove the allegations that you have been bribing voters, Mutabazi said. Alaso accused Mutabazi of working on the orders of the State Minister for Health, Capt. Mike Mukula. You are becoming Mukula's watch boy. You will not manage to work in Soroti if you work on the interest of the losers like Mukula, Alaso said as walked away. She left the police chief stranded as she walked to the dinning room for breakfast. During the concluded parliamentary elections, Mukula lost the Soroti Municipality MP seat to FDC's Charles Willy Ekemu. Ekemu polled 10,523 compared to Mukula's 4,970. |
