THE 20-year-long war in northern Uganda has created a rift between the north and other regions, Ndorwa West MP-elect, David Bahati has said.
"Someone in the eastern or western region doesn't want to think or talk
about
the situation passionately, or about the plight of over 1.6 million people in camps, or the abducted children who have had a large share of the suffering. They look at it as a northern issue alone. This has created a big rift between the regions," Bahati told journalists at Fairway Hotel, Kampala yesterday.
He said building bridges between the north and other parts of the country was the major challenge of post-conflict Uganda.
Bahati, who is also the former head of finance and administration at the Population Secretariat, said there was need to have more voices from other parts of the country advocating against the war.

"Everybody needs to acknowledge that our brothers and sisters are suffering, if we are to have true reconciliation of hearts and minds even when the war ends," he said.
World Vision official Juluis Mucunguzi said every small effort made by MPs and the general public would make a difference.
