Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Thursday in Kampala said Iran is "a close friend of Uganda." At a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, he said access to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is the legitimate right of all countries of the world.
Welcoming the active participation of Iran's private sector in his country's economic activities, he praised Iran's efforts to help develop African states.
On Iran-Uganda bilateral cooperation, he said there were no obstacles in the way of development of relations between the two countries.
Referring to Iran's geo-political situation in the region, President Museveni remarked that Uganda's geographical position in the African continent was also significant.
Highlighting Iran's agricultural and industrial knowhow, he called for further exchange in Iran's valuable experiences in these fields.
During the meeting, Mottaki briefed the Ugandan president on Iran's peaceful nuclear activities.
Latest developments in the region, particularly the current situation in Iraq, were among the topics discussed by the two sides.
