| Hundreds Rally on Independence Mall for Peace in Uganda |
| by KYW's Al Novack Rallies across the United States Sunday were intended to turn up the heat on the Bush administration to stop the atrocities in Uganda. Hundreds of young people, part of an organization called "Invisible Children", camped out overnight on Independence Mall to protest Uganda's 20-year-old civil war. Tiffany Mayer says people should learn more about this conflict: "Well there's so much you can do, and you can have an impact. The first thing you can do is check out our website - invisiblechildren.com." The young people are asking elected representatives, specifically President Bush, to do something about the unrest in Uganda. They want President Bush to pressure the United Nations to take action. The protesters note that over 130 people a day die in the war. They also want adequate humanitarian assistance for children who are displaced by rebel actions. |
