A Rwanda Defence Forces officer, Lieutenant William
Ntayomba, who has been serving under the African Union peacekeeping
mission in the strife-torn Sudanese Darfur region, died on Friday

that Ntayomba, who has been a Signal Officer attached to the
Missions Sector Four (Kabkabiya), was electrocuted on Friday at 1:00
am.
We have received the news of his death and the RDF has already
notified his family and conveyed our sincere and heartfelt condolences to
them, Rutaremara told The New Times on Friday. He died on
spot.
Ntayomba, 41, who is survived by a widow and twins, becomes the
second Rwandan soldier to die while serving under the AU Mission in Darfur
after Corporal David Niyonsaba, who died in a motor accident on October
19, 2005.
His wife, Consoleta Murebunyurwe and kids reportedly stay in
the Western province.
The Spokesman said arrangements to fly the body
back home for burial were being undertaken by the AU mission.
By press
time, the Mission was yet to send condolences to the Rwandan government
and his family, but the Acting Mission Head, Gambian-born Ambassador
Hassan Alieu Gibril, had conveyed condolences to the AU force.
The
deceased, who left for Darfur with Rwandas 15th Battalion on February 21,
2006, has been serving under the direct command of Lt. Col. Jean Bosco
Kananga of Rwanda Defence Forces in Darfur.
Over 2,000 Rwandan soldiers
are part of an AU military mission in Darfur, in an effort to end human
atrocities in the region where thousands of Black Sudanese have been
killed by Arab militia commonly known as Janjaweed.
