THE Uganda Peoples Congress party President has urged youth leaders in northern and West Nile regions to focus on mobilisation of the youth to help strengthen the
party for future elections.
Ms Miria Kalule Obote made the revelation while closing a two-day consultative workshop of youth leaders from 16 districts in northern, West Nile and Karamoja regions.
The workshop was attended by the party leaders, MPs from Kitgum and Lira and over 50 youth leaders.
"I am happy to officially welcome you once again to the party of ideas," Miria said. "Your primary duty is to promote and defend UPC values basing on its idealogy, philosophy, policies and the party constitution. You must have the determination to step out from the shadows of dictatorship and promote your party," Miria said.
She said she was aware of the fact that the northern region has experienced untold suffering and that UPC realises that the best solution it can offer is to establish a peaceful and harmonous society.
She said it was
the reason UPC consistently advocated for the establishment of a truth and reconciliation commission to reconcile and heal the wounds of the country.

Miria urged the youth to avoid acting individually, saying it is a dangerous relic of the Movement fraudulent machinations meant to kill political parties.
She gave out copies of the party constitution to the youth leaders to help them carryout sensitisation in villages.
The Assistant Secretary General of UPC, Mr Chris Opoka Okumu, said the party was organising a similar workshop for youth in eastern, central and western Uganda.
