Uganda alert as Kony wives nabbed | ||
Those arrested include two of Mr Kony's wives, Min Abia and Betty Aku, five of his children and a senior commander, said army spokesman Chris Magezi. He said they were on their way to join the Lord's Resistance Army leader in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Mr Kony is wanted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court. Officials say the detainees have been taken to Gulu, in northern Uganda. "We have information that some of the men who were Joseph Kony's hardened fighters in the areas of northern Uganda and the Southern Sudan are planning to reach DR Congo to rejoin their leader after they were flushed out of the bush by the Uganda army," a senior army intelligence officer told the BBC in Busia, the border town where the group was captured. The security officers would not say whether or not Mr Kony's wives and children could face any criminal charges. They could however be charged with using forged travel documents, the BBC's Abraham Odeke reports. Peace talks between the LRA and the Ugandan government are due to take place next week. | ||
