| KAMPALA THE United States Ambassador, Mr Steven A. Browning, and the leader of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Dr Kizza Besigye, held closed door discussions at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi yesterday. Both parties confirmed that the meeting took place but declined to give details. The Public Affairs Officer at the American Embassy, Ms Alyson L. Grunder, said We dont discuss what is discussed in private diplomatic conversation. You can say there was no comment from the embassy. Besigye says Besigye was also guarded when contacted, it was a courtesy call by the ambassador. What we discussed is private, he said. But sources told the Daily Monitor that the ambassador spent about 30 minutes at Najjanankumbi FDC headquarters. Officials attended The Forum for Democratic Change Chairman, Dr Sulaiman Kiggundu, the party General Secretary, Ms Alice Alaso, the Special Envoy in the office of the party president and Lubaga North Member of Parliament, Ms Beti Kamya, attended. Besigye who lost to President Museveni in both the February general elections and later in the Supreme Court where he challenged the results insists that the Museveni government is legal but illegitimate. Forum for Democratic Change party says it will sustain pressure against the Movement government both locally and among the international community. |
