Bingo! Like I said many times before, we are clearly beginning to see the courage of Ugandan citizens. For this gentleman, Mr. Leander Komakec, to come out like this in the Monitor in support of Mr. Olara Otunnu's cry about Genocide in Northern Uganda and Munini Mulera's call to have UPDF Generals testify at the ICC publicly, speaks volume of such a Ugandan citizen. He is clearly risking his life by coming out with the truth he knows publicly no matter what. In my opinion, supporting Mr. Olara Otunnu who has been attacked and vilified in official government forums including by President Museveni himself and other NRM "attack dogs" is a risky business.
I therefore strongly recommend:
(1) That we, Ugandans in the Diaspora, circulate and sign a petition demanding the ICC to arrange and facilitate Mr Leander Komakec to testify at the Hague about crimes against humanity committed by both the LRA and the UPDF in Northern Uganda, especially in Acholiland, of which he has knowledge and evidence.
(2) That the International Community, in particular the UN, Ugandan Donor partners in particular the USA, Great Britain and the European Union (EU) and of course the ICC demand of the GoU to ensure that nothing like a "mysterious accident" happens to Mr Leander Komakec. Besides this is Uganda where many key people have been abducted by "alien using Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs)" in the past and they have never returned to earth. Clearly Mr Leander
deserves a serious witness protection so that any evidence he may have is not snatched by "Uganda's UFOs'" or by any interested party to the Northern Uganda Genocide that may want him silenced or 'accidentalized'. Got the gist?
(3) That all Ugandans and Africans of goodwill around the world and the international community, but most of all the suffering and silent majority in Acholiland and Northern Uganda, should from now on hold both the LRA and the UPDF responsible should any thing like political "harassments" or "UFOs' abduction" happen to Mr Leander Komakec. Or that he should be subjected to some hitherto unexplained "pressures" because of his courageous step to call a spade a spade re: crimes against humanity, which is Genocide, in Northern Uganda.
According to his letter to The Monitor posted here below, Mr Leander Komakec currently resides in Wandegeya, Kampala. Therefore,
(4) We should from now on hold both the LRA and GoU responsible should Mr Leander Komakec be subjected to "suspicious break in by men in army uniform" or "armed people" seeking to harm him under the "guise of robbery, burglary or any attempted break-in-where-nothing is stolen-except harm to the occupant" at his address shown as Wandegeya, Kampala, to prevent him from testifying to the ICC. If you ask me, it looks like this dude has a lot more than meets the eye! This guy deserves a platform!
We Ugandans in the Diaspora should also applaud our fellow compatriot, Dr Munini Mulera, for his courage in what he has written about the liability of the UPDF to have committed atrocities in Northern Uganda. We should call upon him to take up a public advocacy for Mr Leander Komakec's safety and witness protection in his weekly column. What do we say, fellow Ugandans and fellow Acholi?

Letters to the editors. Today's pick
Face the truth of UPDF, LRA `guilt in atrocities ade
I write in response to Mr. Awel Owihanganyes (Is Muniini blind to UPDF effort?, Daily Monitor of September 15) criticism of Dr. Muniini Muleras contention that President Yoweri Museveni and the Uganda People Defence Forces (UPDF) stand accused, just as the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) rebels, of committing grave human rights abuses in Northern Uganda.
Both sides should be held responsible. In actual fact, Owihanganye is quite wrong. As a responsible citizen of Uganda and who I believe is more knowledgeable about the war in my country I can say, without any fear of contradiction, that Dr. Mulera is quite correct.
Both the government of Uganda and LRA rebels should stand accused for the war that has virtually destroyed the Acholi community in Uganda.
Although the government of Uganda and their apologists continue to deny their role in provoking the war, President Museveni and his generals are more responsible for the war and destruction of Acholi than LRA.
Although the government of Uganda and their apologists continue to deny their role in provoking the war, President Museveni and his generals are more responsible for the war and destruction of Acholi than LRA.
It was their criminal acts of raping men, women and children; of killing innocent civilians, robbing livestock, foodstuff and other valuables from all over Acholi region, as they did at Awach, Acholibur, Alero, Anaka, Lacekocot, Laguti, Patiko, Lalogi, Namokora, Te-Lateng, and many other places that made some Acholi take to the bush.
People like Owihanganye should stop supporting the untenable position of the government of Uganda. Dr. Mulera and Mr. Olara Otunnu should be praised for their intelligence in discerning the truth and telling the whole world.
On behalf of the silent Acholi majority, I say to my brothers Olara Otunnu and Muniini; thank you. Keep up the good work of informing Ugandans and rest of the international community of what is
happening to the Acholi people and the rest of Uganda.
