WOMEN in northern Uganda have called upon the LRA rebels and the government
negotiation team to ensure the success of the Juba peace talks.
Carol Bunga Idembe, the Uganda Women's Network (UWONET) advocacy officer, said the women do not want the Government team to come back from Sudan without the peace agreement. The peace team is headed by Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda.
"All the women appealed to the parties in Juba to remain fully committed to sitting together at the peace table to build a comprehensive and peaceful future for the whole Uganda."
Idembe was recently briefing journalists about the views of women in Gulu, Kitgum, Pader and Lira districts on the ongoing peace talks at the UWONET offices in Ntinda, Kampala.

She said, "The women emphasised that there should be no return home without peace. They implore the parties to consider the specific impact the conflict has had on women and girls."
The press conference followed consultations with over 200
women representing over 25 organisations and displaced people's camps in the five districts.
Ruth Ojiambo, the director of Isis Wicce, said women should be included on the Government team.
