A Turkana woman armed with two AK-47 rifles and a box of bullets outside one of the manyattas (traditional huts) near the Kenya-Uganda border. In the absence of formal Government structures, locals have resorted to bearing arms to protect themselves from raiders, following increasing cases of attacks targeting Kenyans by the Uganda Peoples Defence Force (UPDF).
