Let us stop being gullible
THERE is a levy of sh2,000 per head for everyone entering Speke Resort Munyonyo on Sundays. I asked one of the collectors (an Indian) at the gates about the wisdom of this and was met with a barrage of abuse and rude and intimidating behaviour.

I believe my request was reasonable. Before I pay any money I would like to know why am being charged. Behind us, everyone willingly parted with the sh2,000 and asked no questions. At the restaurant, the food served was not properly done.

I demanded to see the manager but the waiter all but fell on his knees and begged me to save his job and keep quiet about it. Ugandans, it’s time we stopped being so gullible. Let’s ask pertinent questions.

I was also interested in knowing whether these Indians at the gates have work permits and if so, exactly what are their special qualifications that no Ugandan has? You see such people everywhere.

Why be proud? ("Foreign-Anti-Dote" Staying Put)
I AM a student in the UK. After three weeks here I am already cursing this sorry country for its bad weather.
I miss Uganda, I miss the sun, the food and all the good things. I would choose to return to Uganda any day.

But wait a minute, how productive will I be with three days a week of power? Where will I get a job to “enjoy life”? I want to start my own company, but how many people will I bribe along the way?

There are so many Ugandan professionals worldwide, from doctors to the Lou Begas. Surely they all have not forgotten home.

So why don’t they come back? Why should we be proud of Uganda?

Show some social responsibility
BEYOND SALVAGE: This taxi caught fire shortly after getting into the Iganga Taxi Park.
ON October 15, 2006, at about 5:30pm, a pick-up truck belonging to Premier Security Systems caught fire on Lugogo Bypass, near a petrol station.

A security guard ran to the nearby petrol station and requested for a fire extinguisher or a bucket of sand, but the attendants at that station refused to help.

The pick-up truck had just been refuelled with 40 litres of petrol and it was burning up fast. I ran to another petrol station, which was further up the road. There I was given two fire extinguishers and their pump attendants even came and helped us to contain the fire.

I would like to thank that station for their help. Had it not been for them, our pick-up truck would have been burnt to ashes. Shame on those with no sense of social responsibility.
