Hehehe, Ozodi Thomas!!

Maybe we should start banning carrying heavy loads by Africans on their heads
first. Those heavy loads probably put too much stretch on the brain, thereby
affects brain development, especially developing a vital innovative and
invention portion.

Quite frankly the writer is asking all the necessary questions, challenging
as they are!!

ARE AFRICANS INVENTIVE AND PRODUCTIVE OR ARE THEY JUST CONSUMERS OF WHAT
OTHER PEOPLE PRODUCE?

In emergent African cities, such as Lagos, one sees African women
carry heavy loads on their heads; in rural areas of Africa one sees African
farmers carry their farm products, such as yams and cassavas, on their heads;
they walk several miles with these heavy loads on their heads. One wonders what
the cumulative effect of carrying these heavy loads on their heads are. Could
it affect their brains’ functioning? Could it contribute to their reported
lower intellectual functioning?
Why didn’t Africans invent the means to carry loads so as to reduce the
burden of carrying loads on their heads? For example, why didn’t they invent
wheels, which could have made carrying loads with mechanical means (such as
wheel barrows)? It should be noted that the invention of the wheel is the
basis and precursor for mechanical civilizations. The fact that Africans did
not invent the wheel means that they could not have had advanced mechanical
civilization!
Why were Africans unable to invent things that would have made their
lives a lot easier? Why did they just exist with their suffering lot unaware
that human ingenuity could be employed in reducing human suffering?
Why didn’t Africans invent writing to record their history (much of
their written history is thanks to the writing given to them by Arabs and
Europeans)?
Why do Africans, to the present, find it easier to just coexist with
nature without trying to understand and control it or improve it? You can walk
the streets of an African city and see how human inventiveness could come up
with ways to improve things (say, remove the garbage that litter the streets
and, incidentally, constitute public health hazard and kill Africans, and they
do not know it; they live on top of refuse and breathe its destructive fumes
without the slightest desire to do something about it).
You can talk to a ton of Africans who call themselves engineers and not
see one of them show the slightest interest in coming up with mechanical
devices to improve their peoples animal like and beast like existence; they
merely talk nonsense on politics and generally lack the courage of their
conviction; if you fired bullets into the air, like little cowards, they run
and go hide in underground burrows, or run to the West, and from there make
empty noises unaware that no one makes an omelet without breaking eggs, you
cannot build a country without blood and sweat). These so-called African
engineers are a contemptible and despicable lot; they are useless though they
quickly remind you that they are engineers by calling themselves engineer this
or that.
Are Africans inventive or not? These are questions non-Africans ask
and it is about time we, Africans, asked the same questions. Talking rubbish
about how Africans were responsible for the Egyptian civilization cannot
obviate the obvious: in tropical Africa there is very little sign of human
inventiveness, folk just exist like animals.
If you gave an African a job he seldom thinks of ways to improve the
job process (he is more likely to put his little mind to figuring out a way to
steal from the job, and when he has robbed it down he has no job…he kills the
golden goose that lays the eggs). Why are Africans uninventive? This is what one
wants to know.
One can already see Africans coming up with defensive responses to
ones questions, which in their minds they think is persuasive!
Ego defensiveness that makes one feel good (ah, Africans legendary
happiness, the happiness of thoughtless children) when one is clearly imperfect
is not the same thing as rational argumentation.
I am interested in knowing why nothing I see in my world (cars,
telephones, radio, television, computers, Internet etc) is invented by
Africans. I see stuff invented by Europeans and Asians.
What is going on here? Are Africans mere consumers but not producers
and inventors?
What do you think? Please note that I asked what do you think, not
what do you emote; emoting is not the same as reasoning; as usual, I will
ignore all emoting, for I am in the business of thinking, not feeling.
It is time that Africans are known as thinkers, not just feelers; as
folks who are interested in philosophy and science. Are Africans inventive and
productive or are they mere consumers of what other groups invented and
produced? This is the question that we must now answer.
No rationalizations and prevarications would convince a skeptical
world that doubts Africans ability to produce anything. African leaders
stealing their people’s money and using it to live like master thieves is not
the same thing as being real human beings: scientific and technological animals.

  Ozodi Thomas Osuji

PS: I am writing an essay addressing the questions that I asked here; your
reasoned response might contribute to what I write, but if you choose to emote,
as Africans are noted for, I will ignore you, for only thinkers are welcome in
my world. I should observe that this essay is motivated by the issues raised
by Dr Chika Onyeani in his fascinating book, Capitalist Nigger.
