Fifa scraps rotation policy
29/10/2007 14:40 - (SA)
Zurich - Fifa's executive committee has voted unanimously to end its policy of
rotating the hosting of World Cups through its six continental confederations.

Executive committee vice-president Chung Mong-joon told reporters on Monday
that the rotation policy had been dropped with effect from the 2018 World Cup.

Meanwhile Fifa's executive committee will discuss South Africa's 2010 World Cup
preparations as well as next month's 2010 Preliminary Draw in Durban when it
meets in Zurich on Monday and Tuesday.

As well as deciding on the host nations of the 2014 World Cup and Women's World
Cup in 2011, the executive will also examine the World Cup rotation principle
which caused a great deal of controversy when it was implemented ahead of South
Africa's successful 2010 bid. Fifa will examine whether it should continue and,
if so, under what conditions.

Various regulations are also set to be approved on Monday, including a standard
electoral code for the various associations as well as the regulations for
national dispute resolution chambers among the six confederations.
