Man commits suicide over daughter’s marriage

A 68-year old man from Kyangwali Sub-county in Hoima District at the weekend
committed suicide following the refusal by his wife to marry off their
under-age daughter to a neighbour.
According to the police, John Kasiimi wanted to marry off his daughter after
receiving Shs1 million from his neighbour, whose name could not be got.
His wife and children, however, could not hear of it and a quarrel ensued. “He
chased them away and on the following day, he was found dead in the house with
remains of poison on the floor,” Hoima DPC Martin Muwanika told Daily Monitor.
In another domestic related death, the police are holding two co-wives for
allegedly ganging up against their husband and killing him under unclear
circumstances, following a quarrel at Kaiso landing site on Lake Albert in
Kabwoya Sub-county.
Mr Muwanika told Daily Monitor that, the two suspects, now in police custody,
beat up their lover to death. Murder in Hoima and the greater Western Uganda
has become common. Police blames the increase on the locals, who choose to take
the law in their hands while settling disputes.
