Deuteronomy 24:1 NASB One day Jesus was tested by some Pharisees. Referring to principles from the Law regarding marriage, they asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?" *(Matthew 19:3)* Clearly, they were less concerned about God and His will, and more concerned about trying to trap Jesus. But Jesus' response surprised them: He took them back to the beginning of creation, repeating God's original purposes as described in *Genesis 2:23-24.* These Pharisees were concerned about their rules and customs and their narrow interpretations. But Jesus challenged their standards, the condition of their hearts, and their attitude toward life *(Matthew 19:3-9). * Jesus wanted them to think about God's true desires-not about their traditions and rules, but about His purposes and perspective...what He really wanted. Jesus was demonstrating the importance of surrendering every area of our lives to God, allowing Him to shape our opinions, and basing our lives on His Word. How easily we can be like these Pharisees, focusing on issues from our own personal perspective, assuming that we understand, while we're actually dominated by customs and traditions not found in God's Word. It can be difficult to hear clearly from God and understand His purposes. This requires that we seek Him...submit everything to Him...lay aside every prejudice and opinion...surrender our hearts and lives to Him...and read and obey His Word. Today, ask God for His insight into the issues you face. Submit everything to Him-every thought, every opinion, every action. Make Jesus the Lord of your life, and renew your commitment to study His Word. Let Him be your guide in every situation. Today's Inspirational Prayer *Father, I put my life on the altar before You. I surrender my mind and heart to You. Direct me. Guide me. Give me Your wisdom. Help me to fully serve You. In Jesus' name.
