Betty Kamya
I am going to raise my question gain that has remained unanswered all along.
How do you plan to implement Federalism in Uganda when the regions within
themselves do not have political structures, political maturity let alone
political growth? In answering that question I want you to look at regions
that have already established their cultural structures like Bunyoro Buganda
Busoga Ankole and so on. How will you let the political structure run in
those regions and what will be the relationship between the cultural leaders
and the political leaders? But most importantly how will they get those
political leaders without the political party structures within the regions?
And old as I am, I am done !!!

Thanks Beti. I speak for everybody when i say that we are happy that you are
part of UAH. We hope other leaders do the same. Keep well!

Thank you Guys for appreciating the time I put in UAH and other public
discussion groups. I think they are very important avenues of meeting
different people and their views. Not everybody will read / write through
the dailies, but they will say their bit on UAH and if I can reach them
there, then am happy. I have learnt that the best way to be misunderstood is
to keep quiet. Of course some people will be driven by prejudiced views and
refuse to understand one, but on the average, people genuinely seek to know
and understand. My only prayer is that we keep the discussions civil, then
issues will overshadow personalities.
Abbey, am quite keen to discuss the areas where we do not agree, perhaps we
might find some common ground somewhere, from where we can begin to close
the gap, if we have the will, or even cordially agree to disagree, but
continue to talk.
Take care - Beti

Ssalongo,
I do appreciate what you are saying about all this but we should also
appreciate that there is a massive difference between the leaders and the
masses they lead. Most of the leaders in Uganda peddle their offices to
wealthy donors who want favours in return, but not to people like you and
me. It is difficult for a person, like me and you, to give your views
directly to president Museveni or Katikilo without a middle man, and that is
causing us a lot of problems, hence the introduction of UAH. Leaders must
feel peoples anger which is easy to express if president Museveni is not in
your face.
The spokesperson for state house or Mengo would read the official script put
out there by the president or Katikiro respectively, and in most cases it
never answers the questions people want to ask their leaders. The script is
not different from the menus one finds in fancy restaurant or MacDonald. The
waiter or waitress will come to the customer with a standard smile and tell
you: we have got wine, burgers, mukene, fish pie, chips, chicken wings in a
BBQ sauce,
, and you as a customer you have got no choice to ask the
chef to prepare something differently( that is outside the menu). Why should
we wanna run our countries like standardised restaurants? That is why we
have got forums like UAH, brother, and we want all leaders in Kampala to
drop that biggy Kampala syndrome and start participating in these forums.
Up ahead, the public sees enormous challenges and huge threats, and a
national leadership that doesn't care a fig about the communal big picture.
Most of our leaders are what I call Limousine Leaders", that is, they drive
into the hood in their limo stand next to the local demagogue (such as
Abdul Naduli in Bulemezi) and agree with what he says. Then get in to their
limo and go to their gated suburban enclave. They won't live in the 'hood,
barrio or slum but want you to live there to promote political harmony.
These are people whose personal power derives from the space between groups:
they aren't leaders who lead a unified people. Closing those gaps
diminishes their power, and they aren't going to let that happen. These are
the kind of leaders that are afraid of participating in forums like UAH,
because they believe that people will start spotting their weaknesses. They
are afraid that people will start looking at them as normal. They would
rather prefer to wait for a radio program somewhere in Uganda with a
specific topic, where they are informed in advance, and then come up with
their intellectual dishonesty. They prefer people to look at them as
superhuman.
For me, I find that so wrong. This is the reason why Im so appreciative of
Beti Kamya despite my differences with her. I already feel like I know her
which was not the case before, because of her regular participation on UAH.
I think FDC mjust be missing her mobilisation skills. Our leaders would be
doing all of us a favour by participating on UAH once in a while.
I have been sent threats, abuses and all sorts ever since I told people that
Katikiro is now part of UAH but it is a difference between fighting for what
is right and refusing to see what is wrong. Just because somebody has an
accent, a nice suit, and a good table at a fancy restaurant, a nice office,
nice car, body guards, doesn't make him better than others.

Ndugu Abbey, I think there is a reason Mengo has an official spokesman. It
would have been even better if it became a given for organisations and
government departments ad agencies permitted their spokespersons to sign up

reason.

Mw. Migadde,
Both Mr. J.B. Walusimbi and Ms. Jenifer Musisi are members of UAH. End of
story!
By the way, I did not know that debating or communicating with fellow
Ugandans on a regular basis makes someone cheap. You have really annoyed me
on this one and I want you to know it. This is the Kampala 'big-man'
syndrome I was talking about, as in like: '' Im too rich, respectful,
famous, influential, blah blah to interact with poor Ugandans online''. That
syndrome is so wrong at so many levels. Leaders should be part of the
communities they lead. This business of feeling biggy should stop
immediately if we are to change the political and economical outlook of our
country.
People like you look at dunia as everything such that you start looking
at fellow human beings as super human. Please, Im a Muslim and I dont
worship anybody apart from Allah. If Katikiro decides to follow advise of
people like you and keeps mum on UAH, that is his problem. Im just
passing through this dunia, brother, and one day Im gonna die. Im not so
much into worldly things, and my life is OK allihamudulilah.
UAH was set up to give all leaders a chance to communicate to their
subjects. Yes, some members post disappointing messages but that is what I
want our leaders to read. They need to know the real feelings of people, and
this is the reason why Im inviting president Museveni also to join us. I
know that his team makes notes on UAH and takes it to him but we would
prefer him [M7] to be here himself.
Now, I dont know who is making notes for Mengo and this is the reason why
I invited the Katikiro to join us. Why would that be a problem if he becomes
a member of UAH? Amazing!
Just for clarification, I know some members of UAH who are as powerful or
probably more powerful than our Katikiro, but they are happy to be part of
us. They dont have that Im so big syndrome. Please, we are not passing
time here, and your statement is a real wind up. Now, I think that is my
queue to get a drink to calm down because you have really flipped my brain
upside down now. Im so angry with you!

Mw. Semuwemba, you told us last week that Musis was a member of UAH, how
many times will you welcome her?
Also why are you dragging the Katiikiro into this talk, Mmengo has a
spokesman, I think this is cheapening him.

Guys,
Let us officially welcome the Katikiro of Buganda, Engineer J.B.Walusimbi
and the Executive Director of Kampala city, Ms. Jeniffer Musisi, to Ugandans
at heart (UAH) forum. They will be directly reading all your messages and
please have some bit of respect when posting anything on the forum. The
forum is meant to bridge the gap between Ugandans abroad and those at home
but some of you are abusing this opportunity.
Ms. Musisi is also a member of UAH-facebook for those following us there.
Mayor Lukwago is already a member of UAH. He has been for a long time and
reads all your messages. We really do hope that these leaders use this
chance to communicate their policies to us instead of keeping quiet when we
are discussing national issues.
Please encourage more national leaders, city mayors and executive
directors to join us here on UAH.
Thank you
