The police in Arua district are holding a man who hanged his two sons on
Thursday night.

Abdullah Jamal, 25, a resident of Tanganyika central village in Dadamu sub-
county stormed Arua central police station at 6:25am to report his brutal
act.

Alex Afemia, the CID boss at the station, said he rushed to the scene and
found two bodies of the children on Jamal’s mattress and a rope tied to the
roof of his grass thatched house.

He identified the slain as Enoch, 5 and Osman Bayyo, 3. The bodies were
taken to Arua Hospital mortuary for postmortem while Jamal was taken for
medical examination to ascertain his mental status.

He told police that the mother of the children died some time back. Since
then the children have been living with their grandfather Abdullah Asiki
whose wife was allegedly mistreating them.

Jamal claimed that when he brought the issue to his father’s attention, he
abused him and asked him to refund all the money he had spent on the
children.

“I decided to bring the children to live with me, but life became difficult.
So because I didn’t want to see them suffer, at night I thought of the idea
to end their lives,” Jamal was quoted saying.

Afemia said reports indicate that Jamal, a property blocker and driver at
Logiri stage at Arua Taxi Park had been smoking marijuana.

“It is unfortunate that the lives of innocent children have been tragically
lost. Domestic misunderstandings should be settled amicably or by seeking
assistance from the police,” he added.
