Conservative Party (CP) President and Rubaga South MP John Ken The Man
Lukyamuzi has been trying to impeach President Yoweri Museveni.
You have been a member of three parliaments (6th, 7th and 9th). Which was
hottest?
The sixth. Everybody should remember how corrupt ministers were censured.
The sixth Parliament had very many good speakers.
How do you rate Speaker RebeccaKadaga?
Kadaga is doing well. Her only problem is that multiple interruptions
sometimes confuse her. A good Speaker should be able to control
interruptions without deviating from point of order or, clarifications.
Young MPs like Mohammed Nsereko, EllyKaruhanga and CerinaNebanda have stolen
the limelight from you. Its true they came with fire but they were cooled
in Kyankwanzi (NRM meeting).
You have been accused of stealing the party from MayanjaNkangi.I was
elected unanimously at a delegates conference in 2005. Nkanji served his
term from 1980 up to 1996. NsubugaNsambureplaced him up to 2005.
Your secretary general, Daniel Walyemera, said he sacked you.
Walyemera had no powers to call a delegates conference, because the
National Executive Committee had already suspended him for misusing funds.
When he wanted to come back, he reversed the story and said that the
President General is the one who mismanaged funds. Thats why I dragged him
to court. I am demanding sh100m for defamation.
And the impeachment of President YoweriMuseveni. Is it not a joke?
The motion is succeeding; we have 60 signatures so far (130 needed to start
the debate and at least 255 to censure).
Government often accuses you of sabotaging development projects like the
Bujagali power project
I wrote to the World Bank in 2006 advising them not to finance the dam
construction at Bujagali, and they refused. I did so because the money for
consuming power had been inflated, a unit was to cost sh10,000, which was
too high for Ugandans. Even the natural water table had been tampered with.
An environmentalist like Ken the man could not accept that.
What advice do you give the Lord mayorEriasLukwago and Executive Director
Jennifer Musisi on running the city?
The problem is with the Kampala Capital City Act of 2010. First it was
passed without a quorum and should be challenged in court. Musisi is after
fighting wars anddemolishing temporary structures.
The Act created a powerless mayor,which is unconstitutional and violatesour
rights as voters.
Are you really a member of the opposition? We never see you in walk to work
demos?
I calculate my moves. I am a talented public rally speaker and I am playing
my part. But its unfortunate that Police teargases people deliberately
after rallies. The Police will one day be charged at The Hague because we
are recording everything they do.
You have been seen running away from even the least armed policemen. Are you
a coward?
There are many ways of killing a rat. If youre a captain on a front you
should be the last person to be captured. This is one of the reasons why I
have never been taken to Luzira. I have many tactics.
This language you have been using of recent.. Are you going crazy?
Ludicha is a branch of Luganda that was developed by the king when Buganda
needed security against aliens. They decided to change their syllables so as
to confuse the enemy. This language was taught to me by my late mother. It
saves a lot of time because where I would have spoken for ten minutes, I
summarize the story in two minutes. But I dont speak it for more than a
minute.
What have you done for RubagaSouth?
Dont joke with Lukyamuzi. I help the helpless, disadvantaged, and
handicapped people in the constituency.
I am promoting healthcare and encouraging afforestation.
Who in the Opposition can succeed Museveni?
Start with Ken Lukyamuzi the Man. We also have Kizza Besigye, Nobert Mao
and many others.
