It is very strange to join this thread because this government takeover was
planned literary for years, and for anyone to stand here and state that it
was planned when AMO was in Singapore beats the understanding. Meeting were
being held and I remember very well when I heard of the term a government
take over, I did not even know what it meant at a time. Preparation of
throwing out that government was in gear from about since 1967/8. At minimum
I can testify to that. And it grew to fruition for AMO was too poor in
intelligence, the people that were recruited by AMO as Museveni to work on
intelligence were not collecting information on who is against the
government, Museveni for example his job was to travel in the country and
listen to what peoples needs are, and feed back to AMOs government to help
in policy structuring. So AMOs intelligence was to pick up what the DCs and
Ministers and Miluka chiefs have not conveyed to the government, a very
reason Museveni and his group were never armed and did not require military
training to get the job, just a university degree. And they were not called
intelligence officer but Reaserch officers. People like Akena Adoko those
were policy makers, where we need more schools where we need more hospitals
where we need to expand water the road phone and so on services. Changing
Uganda intelligence to be about threats of the government has by far and
largely started in the 70s during Amins time. I actually do not even think
that the Museveni group had an arrest authority, for they had absolutely
nothing to do with population and crime and government threats, none what so
ever.
That is why no one picks on Museveni when he was working under AMOs
government.

Mr Lam:
The reason I asked when that encounter took place was to figure out what the
anti-Amin forces did not do between that time and the coup. They too should
have moved but you add more information about Col Barlev the fellow who took
over the signals and jammed the anti-Amin side. They should have mobilized
there and then and gone to war. I guess minister Onama was busy too.
The biggest mistake was to trust Col Barlev with the signals. Who made that
decision?

I should have not used the word "unknwon".
Perhaps it was as a result of that encounter between Amin and Ojok Oyite
that plan A was aborted.

So which is which? Did not Ocen state that Amin was busy positioning his
squad?
If Ojok Oyite was assigned that duty and met Amin in that situation which he
( Lt. Col ) perceived as Amin positioning is squad, then it really hurts me
to think that my people
died for nothing. Their death could have been avoided if Lt. Col Ojok Oyite
acted accordingly.

It is true as Nekyon mentioned that Lt Col Oyite Ojok met Col Iddi Amin at
Entebbe airport when he(Ojok) went to make security arrangements for Obote's
return from the Commonwealth Conference in Singapore. Unknown to Oyite,
Amin was making his own arrangements at the airport for plan A (the
assasination) in the companyof Col Barlev the Israeli Defence Attache.
What I do not agree with Nekyon is his earlier statement about the 1971
coup, that Erinayo Oryema the then Inspector General of Police was a party
to the plan. If he was, how come he was hunted by Amin's men after the coup
and had to take refuge at the Israel Embassy where he fled when their
meeting in Parliament was stormed?
Amin wanted Oryema arrested or killed. It was Col Barlev who pleaded with
Amin to spare Oryema and convinced him to appoint him to the cabinet.
