The project dubbed JLOS House Complex will house the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal; Uganda Police Force, Uganda Prison Service, Directorate of Public Prosecutions and Judicial Service Commission, among others. Mr Paul Gadenya, the senior technical advisor to JLOS, confirmed the development, saying they had already paid Shs5.6 billion on fencing and architecture. “Next financial year we shall use another Shs7 billion to start the construction,” Mr Gadenya said. The JLOS was established by the government to bring together institutions in the criminal justice system to develop a common vision, policy framework, have general objectives and plan over a short period of time. However, the funds for the main project have not been mobilised yet. “I can’t tell you as for now the step we have reached in mobilising money, but we are currently in talks with the Finance Ministry on the how the project should be funded,” Mr Gadenya said. Officials argue that bringing the institutions nearer would not only reduce on the operational costs, but also become more convenient.
