Museveni, Kooki chief hold talks

President Museveni has met and held talks with the chief of Kooki,
Kamuswaga Apollo Sansa Kabumbuli II.

According to a State House statement, Mr Museveni and the Kooki delegation
discussed cultural lineages as well as developments within the kingdom and
the region. “The President wants traditional leaders to protect and
preserve culture without compromising the importance of national unity.
Museveni said traditional leaders have the task of mobilising people to
participate in community-based awareness including promoting income
generation for each household for economic development,”reads the Statement.

Located in Rakai District, Kooki chiefdom was incorporated into Buganda
Kingdom in 1896 after signing an agreement but retained some cultural
heritage, including their own leader, the Kamuswaga.

Tension between Mengo and Kooki reached fever pitch in 2009 after the
Kamuwsaga launched a yellow and white flag, as well as an anthem for the
chiefdom. The Kooki prime minister quickly dispelled the fears, drawing
parallels with a school that composes its own anthem.
The Kamuswaga was accompanied by Omugo Rebecca Alitwala, deputy prime
minister Hajji Kiwanuka Iddi Ahmed, security minister Dauda Ntanda and
information minister Stanley Ndaula.
