NAKASEKE - President Yoweri Museveni commissioned a sh5.2b electricity line
that links Katugo and Ngoma sub-county through Kaweweta army barracks,
Kanyogoga, Lwera and Kakoona in Nakaseke district.

The 70km electricity line that has been constructed under the Government’s
rural electrification programme, was undertaken by C&G Andijes company, a
local firm, replaces the generator that the people here have been using.

“It is the Government’s responsibility to provide infrastructure such as
roads and electricity. You should use these facilities to add value to your
products and get an income so that you fight poverty from your homes,” the
President said. Really?????

The electricity line has since been handed over to Umeme that has embarked
on distributing prepaid electricity metres.

While still in Ngoma, the President also launched a campaign to fight
poverty among NRM veterans, invoking the successes of the bush war tactics
in which each region had a commander and deputy commander.

Senior presidential advisor on security Gen. Caleb Akandwanaho (Salim
Saleh), deputised by Brig. Proscovia Nalweyiso, will oversee the general
implementation of the projects and will work closely with local leaders,
including Members of Parliament.

The army will monitor projects in all former operational zones to reinforce
efforts for eradicating poverty.

Under the new initiative, local commanders, described as overseers, will
monitor the implementation.

In Ngoma sub-county, Gen. Saleh will be deputised by Lt. Col. David
Karuhanga.

During the launch at Kasambya in Ngoma, Nakaseke district, where he also
addressed hundreds of NRM veterans, President Museveni on Sunday said he had
to seek ways of reinforcing the fight against household poverty after he was
ambushed by several veterans and individuals during the recently celebrated
Heroes’ Day at Butalangu in Nakaseke district.

“The rehabilitation of the Luwero Triangle has delayed. Some things have
been done, but it seems the message to do with fighting poverty at the
household levels has not been strong.

"I have decided to seek an alternative to this problem and seek ways to
fight poverty among our people,” he said on his first leg of the mass
mobilisation tour in his campaign against poverty among veteran communities.

“We shall use the bush war strategy to win this war and use the sub-counties
like the war zones we used to have. We shall use soldiers and deputies to
implement and help, while working with local leaders to implement the
projects,” he said.

The President pledged to provide Hydrofoam machines for brick-making for the
veterans houses, tractors as well as improved cattle for milk production.

To create awareness across the country about the NRM veterans poverty
eradication campaign, the President will tour Luwero, Mukono, Kayunga,
Tororo, Mpigi, Mityana, Nakasongola, Kibaale, Kiboga and Wakiso districts.
