Man charged in killing of 72-year-old prostitute
TORONTO -- Police have accused a 26-year-old man of killing a 72-year-old
prostitute earlier this summer and setting her apartment ablaze in an
apparent effort to cover his tracks.
Firefighters found the elderly woman dead in her second-floor unit on July
13 as they doused the flames. An autopsy later determined Janina
Wrigglesworth was slain before the fire was sparked.
On Tuesday, investigators arrested Blake Anthony Wilson, who they believe is
the man seen in security images from the dead woman's building.
Det.-Sgt. Terry Browne revealed Wednesday Wilson is charged with
first-degree murder.
"We don't know if they knew each other prior to this," he said.
Browne said it's believed the senior citizen was "still active" in the sex
trade, advertising herself as "Playful Tina" and "Linda" in a "local trade
publication."
"It was not uncommon for potential clients to visit her address," he said.
Investigators have obtained the victim's phone records and urge anyone who
had phone contact with Wrigglesworth from July 6 to July 13, even if they
"never actually met with her," to contact police.
"We would prefer that contact be initiated by these individuals," Browne
said. "However, should these individuals choose not to contact us, we will
be contacting you directly as this is an integral part of our
investigation."
Browne said the dead woman was retired and collecting a pension from "a
federal job," but she also earned money on the side doing tax returns.
Police are now in possession of those tax returns and would like to give
them to their owners.
Despite her multiple incomes, Browne said Wrigglesworth "lived by very
limited means" and sent money overseas to relatives in Poland.
