Ugandans

Rose Birungi’ s question is very important apparently, you see in democratic
principles, there is nothing magic in election but to let the politicians go
home to the people that know them to elect them. They elect them for they
know their back ground and they trust that when they reach in parliament
they can represent their interests. So the people in the constituency are
sacrificing their personal interests to these individuals for they trust
them that much. It does not matter if you have been elected in Moroto as
long the people of Moroto trust that they can put their personal interests
into your hands that is all you need for me in Kampala to trust you. So that
election, moves like a cover of trust on you the elected MP and it is used
as your personal insurance to come to Kampala and be a politician for you
have people that have invested their personal interests in you. The needs of
people from parliament are the same it is a need of good governance. When we
bypass the people in that constituency we create two problems {a} We bring
ourselves to a man like Yoweri Museveni that his very own people, the
people that knew how he grew up, the people that knew his father, the people
that knew his mother, the people that knew his childhood, the people that
knew his child piers refused to trust him with running their interests into
Kampala. And the moment he reaches to Kampala he does to us exactly what his
constituency ran from. {b} When you look loosely at The East African
community it is failing for many of the people into it were not elected or
many were rejected by their own people at home, so you are still going to
get the very same results as getting Museveni that went home and he was
rejected.

With that back ground, how do you stand in day light and define Andrew
Kayiira as a nationalist? And that is the same message I posted to Betty
Kayiira when she was still living in Rip Van Winkle government Apartments in
Poughkeepsie that if her husband was not just cold killer, he should have
gone to the people of Kanzize Masuliita, a people that knew him and stood to
be elected as an MP. Any one you see in politics without being elected as an
MP in some part of the country is a cold killer and a thief.

Allow all of them including Amii O’Mara-Otunnu to lead you at your own
peril.

Opposition criticism

The venue for the celebrations was Rukungiri, the home town of the former
leader of the main opposition party, Forum for Democratic Change, Kiiza
Besigye. He was among those who attended the official celebrations and made
some scathing comments about Uganda's progress in the last half century.

"Economic growth has been very minimal for the last 51 years. We were at the
same economic level with countries like Singapore, Korea and Malaysia. If
you look at the kind of development they have been able to achieve for the
last 50 years and you compare with our 50 years, then you will realise we
have wasted our 50 years," Besigye said.

The reason for this, according to Besigye, was that Ugandans were not free
to choose who should lead them and could not enjoy their human rights
without being intimidated by the government.
