*Re: To East African Parents.*

*East Africa has a couple of Generals and high ranking Security Officials.*

*A son to one of these officials came to Canada for Advanced Electrical
Engineering Studies.*

*His parents, back home, are stinking rich.*

*Within no time we had become very dear friends. ( me being both a Physics
and a Mathematics Teacher ). *

*Now whenever Graduate Schools admit one with a three year Undergraduate
qualification they stand to miss-out millions in Government and Corporate
Research Funding.*

*So a three-year Undergraduate Engineering degree became the source of
immense frustration for this son from back home.*

*Subsequently, all of us parents must note: The Education Systems we run
back home will make or break our children. Rich or poor, weak or the
mighty,………… same fate. *

*The young man got extremely frustrated. *

*He was driven into a terrible act and now is to spend twenty five years
in prison here.*

*This month I will travel seven hours to take him books. He asked me for
Mathematics and Engineering books.*

*That is why I am appealing to all Ugandan parents to:*

*1) **Always treasure and defend our “Advanced Level System” that
gives Uganda (and Zimbabwe) such advantage. *

*2) **Demand that from Primary Six to Senior Six we double the content
of Maths into two subjects instead of the single one offered presently.*

*3) **Demand that our Universities phase out three-year degrees.*

*We appeal to all parents, in government, the opposition, in the military,
civilian, rich or poor etc.. to be cognizant, for elimination, any death
traps and barriers against our children.*

*As for the young man my heart goes out to his parents, his mother......
such a tragedy......*

*Many times we must put our differences aside and pull together for the
sake of the children.*

*Happy Holidays.*

*Mitayo Potosi.*
