Joseph Magandazi

Yes indeed your script is very clear, now in getting its clarity let us read
it very slowly and kindly walk with me. There are three sentences that I
need us to read slowly, two made by you and one made by George Okello, a
lawyer that claims to have been very involved into the investigations of
killing Ugandans at home. Here we go.

1} Fronasa was in Mbarara Simba barracks in 1979   {Joseph Magandazi}

2} M7 was the overall commander of fronasa {Joseph Magandazi}

3} A majority of the Ankole people actually know that it was the NRA which
committed these massacres although many are very reluctant to say so openly.
{George Okello}

Now how can all these three sentences be right sir? How can The Moslems of
Mbarara get murdered in 1979 by NRA? Was NRA established by 1979? And this
is a statement from a lawyer that starts his writing by establishing his
credentials and knowledge about the murders of these people and this is a
direct quote from again the very same lawyer and I directly again quote “I
served in one of the very first Commissions of Inquiry that Museveni set up
in 1986- I was one of two lawyers on this Commission that included people
like professors Nsibambi, Mahmood Mamdani, Karugire, Dr Mwaka and 7 others.
We covered many districts- including Luwero. –George Okello” End quote.
Were the Moslems of Mbarara murdered by NRA or by FRONASA? And there is a
very element why I decided to go after these allegations for there is a very
factual distortion in either yourself or the lawyer sir.

And Joseph Magandazi, I am very aware that Edward Pojim believes that I have
a vendetta against Acholis, but there are facts I need to raise especially
when George Okello an Acholi starts to lump the murdering of these Moslems
to NRA. You see there is a very strong belief that these Moslems were
murdered by FRONASA but on instructions of Acholis for Museveni was not a
commander but Acholis were. Think about this critically sir, what would have
motivated Museveni to kill Muslims in Mbarara? There is a Langi living in
this country, who became a Muslim and was working at the then Apollo Hotel
in Kampala who was detained by Acholis in 1979. One of his middle fingers
was chopped off by Acholis. They repeatedly asked him why he was a Muslim
when he was a Langi. In the end they let him go with a strong warning. If
Museveni indeed killed those Muslims, he must have done so in full view of
the Acholi commanders, because they were intent on revenging. Museveni
being a cold killer himself would have no objection in carrying out the
order. After all, while in Tanzania he killed one of his brothers who had
ambition. In terms of rank, during the Tanzania-Uganda war, Museveni was a
nobody. Why he was even appointed Minister of Defense made/makes no sense.
Now since UAH has turned into a Commission of Inquiry by default, it is time
crimes committed by Acholis to be discussed in full sir. It must be
bothersome to critical thinkers to go after a small soldier that
implemented instructions on a front line and not go after his commanders
that were Acholis. And when a lawyer that is an Acholi himself, stands into
a public forum to state that the murders were committed by an organization
that was not even created in 1979 it surely must raise a red flag.

Like I stated from beginning, George Okello’s reasoning is quite bizarre.

Mulundwa ,

My script is clear and i state that Fronasa was in Mbarara Simba barracks in
1979 that is a fact. Secondly, M7 was the over all commander of fronasa that
is a fact.

Did NRA murder Moslems in Uganda? And that question covers for both murders
Mbarara and Lake Katwe as George Okello claims?

Okello,

This is for your information the woman rightly allegedly murdered by M7 was
a mutoro and she is believed to be the biological mother to Muhozi. we need
to prove this after checking Janet 's DNA and that of Muhozi. Records have
it that Janet has never had a son she was schooling in Nairobi as an air
hostess at that time when they fell in love with Yoseri Tahaburwa ak M7. The
murder of Muslims in mbarara is or was at the hands of M7 and his fronasa at
the time. Remember In 1979 after the TPDF overrunning Kampala M7 held Simba
Barracks Mbarara for some time as his HQTs. That is the time when Muslims
were massacred these are facts. Its the same fronasa that he used to attack
Kabamba and he went on to tell a lie that they were only 27 men who attacked
kabamba that is not or was not true. If you were threatened at the time its
because M7 is involved in that massacre. I also remember personally seeing
him in 1979 being driven in a datsun 240 Z blue when he shot at us
demonstrating at city square these are facts.

Friends

I have a very busy evening so I am going to be very brief. This is where I
have a problem with this Acholi “Lawyer” How did NRA murder these Moslems
when they were murdered before its formation? When The Muslims were murdered
in Mbarara there was no NRA in Uganda. In fact I do not even think NRA was
established at the time of murdering the Moslems in Lake Katwe.

It just continues to be bizarre.

John Kwitonda/Edward Mulindwa/Akim Odong,

I served in one of the very first Commissions of Inquiry that Museveni set
up in 1986- I was one of two lawyers on this Commission that included people
like professors Nsibambi, Mahmood Mamdani, Karugire, Dr Mwaka and 7 others.
We covered many districts- including Luwero. The massacre of the muslims was
very much on the agenda but this was left to another Commission to
Investigate Human Rights Abuses, which started its work after I had already
left. I abandoned my work with the Commission of Inquiry when I was warned
by elements within the NRA that there were plans to arrest me on unspecified
charges. But even at that stage, it seemed clear to us that there were at
least three recorded massacres of muslims in the Ankole district,
concentrated mainly in Mbarara. My estimate is that at least 700 muslims,
mainly men were killed in these massacres.

Many of these muslims tended to be baganda migrants to Ankole, but I think
that was just coincidental because islam is more prevalent among the baganda
than any other ethnic group in Uganda, for eg in Lango, islam is almost
negligible. Most of the people who were killed tended to be traders,
especially those who were seen to have benefitted from Idi Amin's "economic
war" and who were allocated properties siezed from the departed Asains.

A majority of the Ankole people actually know that it was the NRA which
committed these massacres although many are very reluctant to say so openly.
It is the same brick wall I get among the Banyankole when I raise the issue
of Museveni's wife Ruth, a munyankole woman who was murdered by Museveni in
1976 in Dar es Salaam and whose body has never been found. The Banyakonle
know that Ruth was murdered by Museveni, but I have not heard a single
Munyankole man or woman pick up the courage to go and ask Museveni to reveal
the grave where he has hidden the body of this woman. So why is it left to
me, a Lango man from Dokolo, to spend almost 30 years now, looking for the
grave of this poor woman, when the Banyankole themselves can have put
pressure on Museveni to reveal the burial site so that it can be
"accidentally" discovered by a goat-keeper in the bushes of Tanzania. Eriya
Kategaya, who must have known the burial site died without revealing its
whereabouts, even on his death-bed, he never made the confession to his
priest. He took the secret with him to his grave.

So, I agree with you, the details of who murdered more than 700 muslims will
only come out after the NRA is removed from power because all those who know
about it are at the moment are engaged in a conspiracy of silence.

It cannot be proclaimed that these atrocities in anyway took a form
of political struggle. It was pure murder because some of the people killed
were very old men and women and others were children and babies. Abubaker
Katongole was 80 years, Segululigamba was 75, Haliima Nbatanzi was 80,
Aisha Katende was 85, Nuliat Namakula was 2, Hamida Nansamba was 18
months. Most of the children were below 5 years.
It should also be noted that the list here includes only those
people from one county, and not all of them were recorded. The names
of the rest of the people who died throughout Ankole District are not
available to us. In addition, it was not even possible to recover all the
bodies of the people known to have died.
For instance, of the 64 people we have recorded here, only 36 bodies were
recovered from the water in which they were thrown. They were buried at a
time of fear and distress, with intimidation being carried out by
soldiers (the purported liberators) and other government officials whose
duty should be to protect all citizens. It was not possible to burry
them in their homes as this was “a danger zone”; so they were buried in mass
graves at Nyamitanga mosque in Mbarara. The survivors fled the area and went
to settle in Kyazanga in Masaka District, leaving their land to be occupied
by their tormentors.
