WASHINGTON, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- The U.S. State Department said Saturday it is
attempting to reach U.S. citizens in South Sudan to inform them of a midweek
evacuation flight from Juba.

"Please note that this flight would transport U.S. citizens to a regional
safe haven destination" in the coming week, the State Department said on its
website. "U.S. citizens would be responsible for making any onward travel
and/or lodging arrangements."

“Questions or additional information about your current location and status
in South Sudan, or your need for emergency consular assistance, can be sent
to [email protected]. You may also contact the U.S. Embassy
in Nairobi, Kenya by phone at +254 (20) 363 6451 or +254 (20) 363 6170, or
by email. For immediate emergencies, contact U.S. Embassy Juba at
+211-912-105-107.

"Citizens are also urged to revisit U.S. Embassy Juba's homepage
periodically for up to date information on the security situation in South
Sudan. The Embassy will endeavor to advise U.S. citizens further if the
security situation changes," the advisory said.

The International Crisis Group said Thursday the number of dead in South
Sudan is close to 10,000 people, a huge increase from a Dec. 26 U.N.
estimate that at least 1,000 perished in the conflict between President
Salva Kiir and his former vice president, Riek Machar, the New York Times
reported Friday.
