Our region has been a frightening region for way too long, let me tell you a
story that happened to me in 1978/9.I worked in a town as central Office
Technician, so as the war and fighting happened, Post Office out there used to
be a part of the district team. When they were sitting we were invited as well
for we had a value in the critical pieces of the city. One day a we were
addressed by the army unit commander in the area and we were specifically given
instructions of how to protect our offices. Rule number one, our offices were
out of bounds to anyone. If you see any new face that has come to our office to
call the army unit and report that individual, the unit was not that far away
from our office , so when you call them they surely show up and very
immediately. Because everything we had was machines and mechanical we never
served the public so you had no reason to come to our office as many Post
Office and electricity buildings are. There are these buildings all over the
place that you will never know a communication units unless you work there so
you really had no reason to show up at our working place. By the way I have
worked with Bell Canada in this country and they use the very system, offices
are private and many of you do not know where your phone circuits come from
because it is not your job to know.

The army had a system also, where they transfer officers from units to units,
and when you are transferred to a unit you start by getting educated on where
vital offices of area are, for example banks water supply food supply
communication systems and so on, so we were sitting in the office one morning
and a man walks into the unit without warning and without telling us who he is.
He literary opened the door and walked in and said wow this is the system
serving the area good place and he walked away. As instructed we picked up the
phone and called the army for that was the regulation, they showed up in
basically 5 seconds as he was walking off the lawn. They came back with him
laughing at us that this is one of our people just posted here yesterday so he
is a good man to view the department. 5 minutes after they departed with him,
the very same man came back this time with an AK 47 and swearing to kill all of
us and his question was only one, so I look to you like an enemy really? I am
going to shoot all of you and kill you. It was a very frightening moment. The
protocol was very clear, all new postings were to be sent out to all of us and
those people had to be introduced to us so that we know them, they did not
follow their own protocol but it is us now that are faced with an AK 47. If
that man came in and we did not report him we would face the AK 47 as well so
what exactly were we to do? There are incidences that happened in Uganda that
still bother me to today in my life and I have struggled with them most of my
life. This is 2014 and we are still blowing up our selves, what value will kids
growing up today be of come 20 years ahead when they are the adults in great
Lakes?

We need to change Nakasongola from manufacturing bombs to manufacturing
Penicillin and ampicillin sir.

Come on Tony,
Nobody is celebrating the death of UPDF soldiers, I think. Actually, their
death should bring tears or sadness to all Ugandans that are in position to
access this info.Personally, I'm happy that UPDF was sent to South Sudan at the
time they did as i have already explained somewhere.

But there are undoubtedly many UPDF soldiers that are dying in this war in
south Sudan, but it is clear that official estimates vary widely depending on
what source you wanna believe. If you are in the government and don’t want
Ugandans to question UPDF’s deployment in the war, then the army spokesperson
is your man. If you are an independent Ugandan and want to find out the truth,
the better people to keep in touch with are those on the ground in South Sudan.
However, most of journlaists from Uganda are moving with UPDF, and this has
allegedly made it difficult for them to report the war as it is for fear of
stepping on some people’s toes. The numbers reported in international media do
not support the UPDF spokesperson story of ‘only 9 dead’.

There are a lot of international players involved in this war and people are
doing everything possible to cover up the genocide going on in the country.
With no evidence to back up most of the claims of grand scale killings, people
now just believe stuff based on emotional gut feelings. It's actually no
different from what happened during the war in Kosovo- everybody just report
what they want.

But so far the evidence shows that the Dinkas and Nuers have been successful at
ethnic cleansing of each other. Somebody is covering up all these atrocities.
Now this is where i start getting a problem with the ICC.

I have not attended a mass funeral for a long time. I hear UPDF lost 2.5
battalions to rebels in Sudan in a single engagement.

How many soldiers are in two and a half battalions of UPDF?

I am powerfully reminded of the late SHARIAT newspaper which used to publish
weekly updates of NRA casualties in northern Uganda. At the time, by Shariat
reports, NRA was losing at least 2000 per week and Shariat was not interested
in whether those were battalions or brigades.

And this is not to say UPDF is not paying in lives. Lt. Col. Ankunda has stated
that they are not attending a tea party is South Sudan. What appalls me is that
some forumists think a dozen soldiers are too few to lose in South Sudan and
they wish there were more.

As usual, reality only dawns when the caskets arrive and we suddenly discover
that we were all very well represented in the dying..... At such times no one
measures noses!!!!!!!!!!!
