If you are in Canada, in addition to taking down The Canada revenue
authority website, all federal departments using software vulnerable to the
so-called Heart bleed bug have been ordered to immediately disable their
public websites. The order came late Thursday, and states this as a
precautionary measure until the ''appropriate security patches are in place
and tested'', but did not indicate how many departments are involved. The
statement adds that until measures are applied, ''Canadians will not be
unable to access certain Government of Canada websites.'' We are going to
have some difficulty in getting access to government website till when we
pass these murky waters. Let me add that if you are using Canada Trust Bank
as I am, we were assured from last evening that their patch is in order so
the website of the bank will continue to be effective but change your pass
word to the bank. The rest of the banks I do not know their position for I
do not use them check with your bank to know where you stand.
This bug has been running out there for about two years, why it has taken
the government of Canada this long to go after it explains its efficiency,
go figure how the conservatives run the government.
