Uganda’s problem is way larger than that sir, in addition the trees you have
listed, lightening is largely taken by the electricity wiring in the area where
they run. We drove with a guy from the electricity sector and all he wanted to
show me on their wirings was the earthing/grounding of the lines. At every
130KV line that run to Luwero to Masaka to Mityana to you name it, there is an
earth wire from the 130KV running down the power pole to the ground, it is
called earthing or grounding the power line. This is a very standard procedure
when you construct a power line in every country, we earth our power lines even
here. What the degree holders did in Uganda was to run from pole to pole
stealing those earth lining. We drove on one from Soroti to Gulu, Bombo to
Nakasongola, Katikamu kikyuusa and we were stopping at poles at random, and
only thing we saw was the clips that were running to the foot of the poles, the
earth wires were already gone, and this was like 10 years ago.

When you have a power line that runs through communities when it is not
earthed, the lines themselves became the lightening conductors, so even if it
lighten some where there is no schools, the wires themselves run with it and
they dump it to places they so decide to. And that place can easily be your
home or some ones school or church for those power lines actually end up to
houses. The construction site where they dump it becoming the earthing system
of the power structure. The second problem we realized was that because there
is no earthing or grounding on Uganda power lines, there is a noise on the
power supplied. When there is a noise on the power supplies many delicate
equipment will not function to norms, for example an Oscilloscope to function
it needs a clean power supply, that is not available in Uganda, Data
transmitters like fiber optic need a clean power supply, your lap top needs a
clean power supply. Telex machines same thing, if you run X-ray same thing.
This is not a problem today in Uganda because you do not have those systems
but if a day comes and you decide to develop your system by importing these
systems, record must show that Uganda power system needs to be redone and
earthed. The reason Ugandans never died under Amin was that all hills in Uganda
were grounded, the entire power system was grounded, all houses built with
power supply were grounded. We did not remain alive by accident as The Edward
Pojims thought.

But I will assure you as well that as soon a you earth each power pole you need
a Police Officer at each to protect it from being stolen for Uganda degree
holders will steal them again. Then they will go after Idid Amin and call him
all names, they will support The Tanzanians that blew up Ugandans to remove him
and call them heroes, the Gwoktos will sing how Uganda was saved from a monster
and it became a better place today, then they will sit in UAH and bleat how it
is a tragedy to see children dying in class rooms.

My God help us that we get a civil war in Uganda so that the population is cut
by 20 million for that can easily mean 15 million degrees. Geeeez !!!!

It is not only the protectors that are the problem. Most of the trees that
would under normal circumstances be the first victims in case of a lightning
strike have been cleared. The environmental degradation happening in Uganda
today is totally unacceptable. The leaders have shirked their responsibilities
for the easier route of politics of eating.

Ndugu WBK and UAH folks,

I think, it would be a disservice for the infamous intellectual rulers and
their strong supporters those are not SWINES as the past rulers of Uganda who
were hated most by the infamous supporters of the current rulers for the
continuous 30 years and still counting!

Who are those who are rooting away the lightening protectors? Are Ugandans not
in better shapes than many years ago? Do not forget that Bushenyi is not in the
third world like Gulu or Soroti and Moroto!

WBK:

I ignorant about the capabilities of a lightening protector. So, I have a few
questions, to help me appreciate Mr. Mulindwa's position:

For example, what's the lifespan of a protector once it is installed? And, what
maintenance services are needed and how often to keep one protector in
operational status?

Also, how wide can one protector ably thwart off a lightening strike:1 mile, 5
miles away?

Mr Pojim:

Sad. It is very likely the lighting protectors were rooted
in search of mercury or whatever.
