A woman is dead and her husband seriously injured after a man in his 20s
crashed a car into a family home in St-Alexis, Que., early Sunday morning.

The man lost control of his car, described as a four-door grey vehicle,
before slamming it into the bedroom of the home in the village in Quebec's
Lanaudière region at around 3:30 a.m.

The man and woman, both in their 30s, were rushed to hospital. The woman
died a short time later, while the man is in serious but stable condition.

Three children were asleep elsewhere in the house at the time and weren't
injured in the crash. Police say they believe the dead woman was their
mother.

The driver, a resident of the Lanaudière region, is also in the hospital
with minor injuries.

He's facing charges of dangerous driving causing death, and police are
taking a blood sample to see if the man was under the influence of alcohol
at the time of the accident.
