Pentagon Has $13 Billion For Presidents Border Wall
Anyone who still doubts that President Trump will not be able to build his
border wall hasnt paid attention to the last two years of his presidency or
fact-checked the background of this former real estate mogul from the big
apple, who succeeded in one of the toughest markets in the country.
Finding the funds to build his border wall, is what Donald J. Trump has done
for over 40 years within New York Citys building industry, its a part of
who he is. When he instructed those within the Defense Department to find
funds for his border wall, the President most likely had already identified
which funds might be used.
The $12.8 billion identified by the Pentagon as possible funds for the
Presidents border wall will be diverted from other less important projects.
Monday night Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., released a 20-page spreadsheet on the
internet, perhaps hoping to sway additional Republicans in overriding the
Presidents veto, in regards to his declaration of a national emergency.
What President Trump is doing is a slap in the face to our military that
makes our border and the country less secure, Reed said in a separate
statement. Now that members of Congress can see the potential impact this
proposal could have on projects in their home states, I hope they will take
that into consideration before the vote to override the Presidents veto.
However, a two-thirds majority of Congress is needed to override the
Presidents veto, which doesnt seem to be there. Reed, of course, is hoping
that by publicly putting the 20-page spreadsheet on the internet, those
states that might be affected would somehow be swayed to vote against the
President.
However, its not yet clear which projects the Defense Department will draw
from. For example, some states that have already been allocated large
amounts of money, that hasnt yet been spent, may need to return those
funds.
For example California was identified as having more than $700 million in
unused funds, allocated for both the Army and Navy military construction,
which as yet to be used, Hawaii is another state that has more than $400
million also unused, allocated to the Army and Navy military construction,
both of which would be used for border security.
More than $200 million in similar funding allocated for, Maine, New York,
North Carolina, Guam, Germany, Guam, and Guantanamo Bay Cuba are also on the
Pentagons list.
In South Carolina, a $6.3 million cryogenics facility is at risk of having
those funds diverted, including a $13 million child development center in
Maryland along with a $15 million performance training center in Colorado.
The Pentagon could also hold off on plans to build a $27 million gym and
dining facility in Guam if needed. Including $66 million for a taxiway and
apron upgrades in Italy and $31 million for austere quarters in the Bahamas.
Heres an additional list of funds that can be diverted to protect our
national security interests.
* $31 million for a mission training complex at East Camp
Grafenwoehr, Germany
* $50 million for a rotary wing apron at Wheeler Army Air Field in
Hawaii
* $16 million for a railcar holding area for Crane Army Ammunition
Plant in Indiana
* $53 million for a UAV hangar for Kunsan Air Base in Korea
* $40 million for an information systems complex at White Sands, New
Mexico
* $95 million for an engineering center at the U.S. Military Academy
It would appear that many of these projects are actually expendable when one
considers what is currently taking place on our southern border. An invasion
of the homeland, regardless of its intent, is nevertheless an invasion on
the homeland.
