Ilhan Omar Slams ‘Pretty Face’ Barack Obama Who Got ‘Away with Murder’

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) unexpectedly trashed former President Barack Obama
as someone with a “pretty face” who got “away with murder” during a
wide-ranging interview with Politico Magazine published Friday.

Omar (pictured above right) is one of the first two Muslim women to serve in
Congress. She’s also the first Somali-American in Congress.

The lawmaker has had a rocky two months in Congress thus far. She came under
fire last week for her latest round of comments that many Americans widely
deemed as anti-Semitic. The House ultimately passed a resolution on Thursday
condemning all hatred and bigotry.

The resolution originally was supposed to condemn anti-Semitism in response
to the Omar controversy. Democrats caved and broadened the resolution after
some vocal progressives defended Omar and said she’d been unfairly targeted.

But before this controversy even broke, Omar gave an interview with Politico
Magazine’s Tim Alberta that was published on Friday.

In the interview, Omar bashed her own party — accusing it of becoming
“complicit in perpetuating the status quo,” according to Alberta.

Omar also knocked Obama — an unusual move from a Democrat. The former
president is widely beloved among Democrats and remains popular with those
on the Left.

Yet Omar criticized Obama’s iconic calls for “hope and change,” saying those
calls were inconsistent with his administration’s actual policies.

“I’m OK with taking the blows if it means it will ignite conversations that
no one was willing to have before.”

“Recalling the ‘caging of kids’ at the U.S.-Mexico border and the ‘droning
of countries around the world’ on Obama’s watch, she argues that the
Democratic president operated within the same fundamentally broken framework
as his Republican successor,” Alberta noted.

Omar told Alberta

[President Donald] Trump.”

“His policies are bad, but many of the people who came before him also had
really bad policies. They just were more polished than he was,” Omar said.
“And that’s not what we should be looking for anymore. We don’t want anybody
to get away with murder because they are polished. We want to recognize the
actual policies that are behind the pretty face and the smile.”

Democrats began decrying the use of “cages” to hold illegal immigrant
children in detention after Trump became president.

None of the Democrats, however, seemed concerned when the Obama
administration used these same enclosures to detain illegal immigrant
children temporarily until they could be placed with sponsors.

Omar also said in the interview that she looks forward to continuing “to
agitate our foreign policy discussions in a way that many of my colleagues
who have been anti-intervention, anti-war, have been unable to do in the
past.”

“So, I’m OK with taking the blows if it means it will ignite conversations
that no one was willing to have before,” Omar insisted.
