In updating the big-doc, I need to refer to where UIMA is typically
installed. For windows, I'd like to use
c:/Program Files/apache-uima/...
So my vote would be for Adam's convention. Those who want to have
several versions can easily install into other places, using various
suffixes to denote the version number, if they want to. (That's what I
do for Eclipse installs, for instance).

My primary concern is that our distributions should unpack into a
directory. If we can agree on that, I'm fairly easy on what that
directory is called. "apache-uima" is a fine name. I would prefer to
have the version number in there, but if there are overriding concerns,
that's not a big deal.
I'm OK with unpacking into a directory.
I have a preference for the directory name "apache-uima", while Thilo
prefers "apache-uima-${version}" (the version for the first release
would be 2.1-incubating). Do others want to help break the tie?
Please first read this mail thread to see the pros and cons we've
already discussed.
