That's not what Noel was talking about.  As I understand it, he wanted maven to 
preserve custom modifications he made to his .project/.classpath files (for 
things where the source/javadoc is not in the repository).  I don't think 
that's supported by Maven, at least not that I know of (which isn't saying 
much).
