Fixed, but there are still some questions - assigning to Lev to review.
Question: is this the right fix?
If "ex" is null, 3 "!" are printed to System.out, while the rest of the
messages are directed to System.err. What should the behavior be in this case
- the current behavior doesn't seem helpful.
