Hi all, Sorry for the duplication.
ISPA are holding a meeting are a meeting to discuss the response to government on the parts of the Comms Review about parental controls. Whilst this has gone out to the relevant ISPA lists this sometime misses people who have an active interest. ISPA are an open organisation so as long as you are part of a member then you are welcome to attend to put your point of view. The meeting is taking place on Monday September 9 from 2-4pm at ISPA’s offices, 1 Castle Lane, SW1E 6DR. =Full Invitation from [email protected] = You will be aware that the Government, in its recently published Communications Review, issued a call for smaller ISPs “to follow the lead being set by the larger providers” and provide an active choice style solution to its members. Secretariat would like to organise a meeting of the subgroup to work with members over our response to the announcement. The announcement, which was preceded by the Prime Minister’s speech in this area that said something similar, marked a significant development in that the activities of smaller providers will now be taken into account when the Government assesses the responsiveness of the industry on this issue. It is our understanding there is no intention to encourage business ISPs to provide such a service but Government is interested in getting a better understanding of the role that consumer facing ISPs (outside the largest 5) can play. There is a recognition that smaller providers face different challenges from larger providers around scale, cost, customer base, etc so Government would be interested in learning more about how a product or service could be tailored to offer parental controls in a different way to the model that is currently being implemented by the larger providers (free network level controls with an unavoidable choice for customers). ISPA may want to facilitate work around what this could look like for smaller providers. Equally, we may wish to look at other options. At the meeting we will give further background on how we got to where we are, provide further information on Government expectations and then open up for discussion. The meeting is taking place on Monday September 9 from 2-4pm at ISPA’s offices, 1 Castle Lane, SW1E 6DR. J -- James Blessing 07989 039 476 -- James Blessing 07989 039 476
