Dear colleagues

UKNOF32 takes place on Wednesday & Thursday next week (16 & 17 September) in
Holiday Inn Royal Victoria Sheffield, Victoria Station Road, Sheffield, S4 7YE.
Here’s a few final pieces of information.

UKNOF are back in Sheffield after 6 years - this time with 245 delegates
currently registered and an agenda filled to the brim with operational and
technical nourishment!

The meeting agenda includes an update on Openreach's G.Fast Proof of Concept
from TalkTalk and BT, and Facebook will show us the technologies and methods
they use to run their production network. Network evolution is of note this
time around, with Alcatel-Lucent talking about ethernet speeds and what is
possible in the future, whilst Google talk about their warehouse-scale
datacenters. Verizon talk about security and Peter Hessler shows us a unique
way to use BGP for realtime spam blacklists. Continuing our casual “shoestring”
series, Remco van Mook shows us how to create an Internet Exchange Point with
only $1000.

With other presentations, a PGP-Keysigning session during lunch, the
opportunity to pick up your RIPE Atlas probe, long breaks for networking with
industry colleagues, and of course UK & Ireland Peering Forum co-hosting their
debut meeting with UKNOF during the morning of Wednesday 16 September, this is
going to be a jam packed couple of days.

The registration desk opens at 9am on the 16th with tea and coffee being
served. The UK & Ireland Peering Forum 1.0 begins at 10am and UKNOF32 begins
at 2pm, with a joint lunch for Peering Forum and UKNOF32 delegates from 12.30pm.

The sponsored UKNOF32 Social is from 6pm and will have a very Sheffield theme
and a Steam Engine! There will also be food. Note that this will require you to
pick up a ticket at the Registration Desk during the UKNOF32 afternoon coffee
break. These are in limited supply and are on a first come first served basis.

Day 2 (Thursday 17 September) starts with registration at 9am and UKNOF32
continuing from 9.30am until 12.30pm.

[[ Car Parking ]]

Car Parking is complimentary for UK & Ireland Peering Forum, UKNOF32, and
Training course delegates. You simply need to register your car at the
conference hotel reception desk. Postcode for SatNav users (the hotel has two):
S1 2AU - which will bring you directly on to the driveway for the venue.

[[ FIRST TIME ATTENDEES ]]

We are pleased to see a number of first time attendees attend each subsequent
UKNOF meeting. UKNOF32 is no different with 30% first time attendees registered
to attend. We understand how daunting it can be to attend a meeting for the
first time, especially if you are new to the industry. As such, Debbie Casey,
from our Meeting Committee, will be manning the ‘First Time Attendee’ section
of the registration desk and will be on hand to welcome and provide any
guidance required. In addition, First Time Attendees may approach any of the
UKNOF crew regarding any questions they may have.

UKNOF meetings are relaxed and fairly informal, and we are certain that those
who have attended UKNOF in the past will assist the first time attendees with
settling in.

[[ UKNOF CREW ]]

The UKNOF crew consists of those who are involved with organising the main
aspects of the meeting - The Programme Committee and The Meeting Committee. You
will be able to recognise the crew by the red lanyards they will be sporting
during the day.

Mugshots are at:

[[ OTHER EVENTS AROUND UKNOF32 ]]

UKNOF Professional Training Series kicks off with a course on "The Technical
and Business Considerations of Secure DNS Deployment” taking place during the
afternoon of Thursday 17 September at the Holiday Inn Royal Victoria Sheffield
and is limited to 25 delegates.

Lunch will be provided to the training course delegates from 1.15pm. The course
starts at 2pm and will be delivered in three 50 minute segments with a couple
of breaks in between.

The course will provide a description of Secure DNS, the technology and how it
works. It will show how to configure popular DNS server implementations to use
DNSSEC for signing and validating DNS data. An overview of the tools to support
these activities will be given, along with some guidance on how to do DNSSEC
troubleshooting.

The course will also describe the impact of DNSSEC on existing network
infrastructure and DNS operations and how these may need to be reviewed and
changed: procedures, customer support and helpdesk issues, provisioning
systems, middleware and so on. Advice on how to prepare for DNSSEC deployment
will also be given: checklists, testing, documentation, migration schemes and
key management considerations.

The course will be delivered by industry veteran and DNS expert, Jim Reid (RTFM
LLP)

The course costs £150 + VAT + Eventbrite fee (£189.65) and you may register for
the course at
