Hello UKNOF!

Myself and Thom Seddon have been working on a social event (just casual,
won't be big and professional like UKNOF) for those interested
networking in & around Manchester.

  When:   Thursday 14th July, 2016
  Where: 57 Thomas Street, Manchester (the bar upstairs)
  Time: 19:00 - 21:00 (the venue stays open until midnight)
  Cost:   Nil

We're aiming to provide a regular, friendly environment, not just for
experienced professionals but also those keen to find out more about our
industry. If it turns out to be successful, it is hoped that we will be
able to run this every third Thursday of the month.

Everyone is invited: please feel free to forward this invitation on to
any colleagues or friends that you might feel would be interest. Some
ideas of those we're hoping to reach:

 - Junior Support/NOC techs
 - Students or Researchers studying Networking
 - Developers with a Networking focus

Thom & I are really looking forward to seeing just how many Networkers
we can get together in one room. There are clearly quite a few of us
around Manchester, and we're hoping that this event will also prove
useful for a few more!

=== Agenda

The evening will start with some short presentations (~10 mins each)
to hopefully break the ice and stimulate some conversation, followed by
plenty of time thereafter to network with your fellow attendees.

Some of the presentations confirmed thus far are:

 * An Overview of Internet Peering in Europe - Tom Hill, Bytemark
 * An Introduction to LibreNMS - Neil Lathwood, UKFast
 * TBC

Please get in touch if you have something that you'd like to present!
Topics are broad, but do keep in mind that you could be speaking to
quite a wide audience in terms of technical understanding.

=== Attending NetMcr

If you're interested in coming along, please do reply to me or Thom just
so that we can get an idea of attendance on the day.

We've also created a Lanyrd page for the event for that purpose:

=== Important notes for attendees

1. Please do try to turn up promptly as we'll be hoping to start the
talks at the *beginning* of the evening, before 19:30.

2. The venue owners are happy for us to use their space gratis, with the
assumption that there will be some spend behind the bar. Out of respect
to our generous hosts, please do not bring your own food or drink*.

 * The cheese & meat boards are amazing, so it's worth eating there!

3. Whilst we're clearly provisioning to make this a social event with
alcohol, please do not feel as if you are expected to drink - there will
be a range of non-alcoholic beverages available at the bar.

4. If you'll be under 18 at the time of attending, please speak to me as
soon as possible. I hope attendance won't be an issue, sans alcohol, but
we will need to double-check this with the bar's manager before you attend.

5. Everyone attending will be there to socialise and talk Networking, so
please be respectful and tolerant regardless of anyone's level of
knowledge, gender, race, religion, football team, or their current
employer. Anyone that feels they have been treated without the due
respect should please contact myself or Thom privately.

That's it. Feedback is of course very welcome - both before & after the
event. We hope to see as many of you there as possible. :)

Tom & Thom.
