10GBASE-LR works over 1m of SM, and probably OM3/OM4, too. So why buy two types of optics for long & short reach? Answer: because the "short reach" optics are cheaper. But why do they exist if the "long reach" ones work over short distances? That's the point Brandon's trying to make; why do we have two sets of standard, when every new generation of Ethernet begets a new generation of MMF. Wouldn't it be better if we didn't have multi-mode standards any more? - -- Tom Hill Network Manager Bytemark Hosting http://www.bytemark.co.uk/ tel. +44 1904 890 890 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2 iQEcBAEBCAAGBQJXvDgdAAoJEH2fKbrp2sQ6SY4H/14G3DMZAU0+o/CKBvkNUby3 V+qNbKgOJ0evGCQ+6WxIgwQ7zU7PRZ3X2MimkOYUZh7vBfo6vjs4PM2yo4eOXv7N ujiQRoG5abXS/k8Wp2i3yTJj0I0LxtHAxYN2znuiuoRZYdNwct1kEe8SulU1XHq4 zArMH+tihjUOVSXMmiA7vDIALZA5XNFRdj7ghaqWiZq99ud86MwJ595/qsL2SGqQ Tqv74ghUV9dUVJklhhwoXRvGntwj3jftIxhWKJhY4hjEUtTDmJCq0R8hOKvKKLWu cHzGZ/W7NJ8425QvKKLshCvwYd+CadHMe+uZJFMMmEK1skT9HqFSVGm/NalZ0lc= =woch -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
