Hello UKNOF,

As is now tradition, NetMcr will be on the 2nd Thursday again!

   When:   Thursday 10th October, 2016
  Where: 57 Thomas Street, Manchester (the bar upstairs)
   Time: 19:00 - 22:00 (the venue stays open until midnight)
   Cost:   Nil

We're aiming to provide a regular, friendly environment, not just for
experienced professionals but for any individual keen to learn more
about our industry, or those looking to simply bolster their social
circles around the profession.

Everyone is invited: please do make a point of forwarding this
invitation on to any colleagues or friends that you might feel would be
interest. *Particularly* those individuals that may not be able to take
time out from work to visit larger events.

Some ideas of individuals that we're trying extra hard to include:

 *  Junior Support personnel
 * Students or Researchers studying Networking
 *  Developers/Sysadmins with a Network interest
 * Engineers in more "Enterprise Network" roles

If you're still not sure about attending, we do have a full write-up of
each meeting to date (with slides from the presentations) available on
our website, which should give some idea of the format to date:

  http://www.netmcr.uk.

=== Agenda

NetMcr starts with a few short presentations (~10-15 mins each) with the
intention being to break the ice and stimulate some conversation. There
will be beer/food breaks in the middle, followed by plenty of time
thereafter to network with your fellow networkers.

Confirmed presentations this month are:

 Marek Isalski: "The Internet's Naughty Step"

There are a few more slots available, following a cancellation, so
please get in touch if you have something that you'd like to present.

The topics permissible are broad, so don't be shy, but do keep in mind
that you could be speaking to quite a wide audience in terms of
technical understanding. Ideally a topic that we can fit into 10-15
minutes.

=== Attending

We've been using Lanyrd to get an idea for attendance. If you're
intending on coming along, it's helpful to us if you could show your
interest here:

=== Important notes for attendees

0. Everyone attending will be there to socialise and talk Networking, so
please be respectful and tolerant regardless of anyone's level of
knowledge, gender, race, religion, football team, or their current employer.

1. Please do try to turn up promptly as we'll be hoping to start the
talks at the *beginning* of the evening, ca. 19:30.

2. The venue owners are happy for us to use their space gratis, with the
assumption that there will be some spend behind the bar. Out of respect
to our generous hosts, please do not bring your own food or drink*.

 * The menu has had an overhaul recently; it's worth eating there!

3. Whilst we're clearly provisioning to make this a social event with
alcohol, please do not feel as if you are expected to drink - there will
be a range of non-alcoholic beverages available at the bar.

4. If you'll be under 18 at the time of attending, please speak to me
before arrival. I hope attendance won't be an issue, sans alcohol, but
we will need to double-check this with the bar's manager before you attend.

We hope to see you there! :)

Tom & Thom.
