Hi Greg, I’ve had some experience with this as part of my current job, I think the summary of it comes down to wether you have a trademark for the name involved, and how strong your legal team is.
If those two variables are satisfactory, I don’t believe it’s worth registering and maintaining all of those domains. As more and more pop up every day, it’s an impossible job to cover for all of them. We cover just the basics, if we have the .com, we’ll get the .net, mostly to avoid users seeing an error page when they accidentally switch the two around, but we don’t go much further then that. We’ve had encounters where users registered and used a domain for purposes infringing on the trademark, sending the basic legal jargon got immediately through the registry involved and switched that domain over to us. Results definitely vary depending on the registry/gTLD country involved.
