'Convert...', which is a demanding statement or a statement that tells someone what

In my experience with software, I believe it's almost universal for these items to be written in what you call the imperative mood. How about thinking of it this way: By selecting a menu item the USER is commanding ULIPAD to carry out the command --
rather than the menu item commanding the user to do something.
