Poor John!

April 19 1850
DISCOVERY OF A DEAD BODY
The body of a boy, apparently about 15 years old, was found on the
bank of the Foyle, about 2 miles below Strabane on Sunday evening
last. On inquiry it was found that the deceased, whose name was John
MULLAN, belonged to the neighbourhood of Drumquin and had been drowned
about a fortnight since, when crossing a ford across the river below
Newtownstewart. The body, which was in a mutilated state, the eyes
having been pecked out apparently by a bird, had been carried ten
miles down the river. The Strabane police had a coffin provided and
the remains interred.
