Hi, all...
I am looking for information about my 3rd great-grandmother, Mary [possibly
Mary Elizabeth] Devlin.  According to her gravestone, she was born in County
Tyrone around 1834, though this conflicts with census information that puts her
date of birth anywhere between 1827 and 1834.  We are not sure when she
emigrated, but she was in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York by about 1853.
Her husband was Matthew Donovan from County Cork.  They were married about
1853, probably in New York, and had children Sarah (born about 1855); Mary
Elizabeth (born about 1855); Matthew (born about 1857); John (born about 1859);
Peter (born about 1861); Jeremiah (born about 1863); Henry (born about 1865);
Isabella (born about 1865); and Hugh (born about 1867).
In the 1860 census of Brooklyn, Eliza Devlin, possibly Mary's sister, is listed
with the Donovan family.
Mary Devlin Donovan died 28 February 1871 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery in
Queens, New York.
Because of the similarity in children's names, I think Mary Devlin may have
been the daughter of Terence/Torrance/Torrans Devlin and Margaret Massey, who
lived in the Omagh area and had children Barney; Rosey; Mary; Hugh; Bella; and
Aly (Eliza?).
I hope someone out there can confirm this... or deny it.  ;]
Thanks in advance for any help, Susan Huff
