3 January 1863 Petty Sessions
Petty Sessions were held to day, before J. L. CANCE Esq. R. M.; Isaac
CORRY Esq.; J. L. CARVILL Esq.

Drunkeness and disorderly conduct
William M‘GULLA was charged with being drunk on the previous night. A
fine of 6d. and 6d costs was inflicted.

Bernard LARKIN, George KELLY and Peter LARKIN were each charged with a
similar offense. They all pleaded having taken 'a wee drop too' much.
The Bench inflicted in the several cases mitigated penalties.

John O'HARA and Thomas MAGRATH were also charged with being drunk and
disorderly. A fine of 6d and 6d costs was imposed each case.

Acting Constable ROBERTS charged Michael RUDDY with being drunk on
Christmas Eve. Fined in 6s and 6d costs.

Sub Constable M'CARTHY appeared to make a charge of drunkenness
against Michael FOX a hanger-on at the hotels. FOX as usual, did not
appear. The service of the summons on the defendant was proved and the
constable deposed that he found FOX lying drunk on the street, on the
20th. The Bench inflicted a fine of 5s, or, in default, to be
imprisoned 48 hours.

Mary Ann HUGHES a worn out and miserable looking prostitute, was
brought up charged by Sub Constable Bernard M'GURK with having been in
the streets on the 31st ult., and also with using obscene language.
The prisoner had conducted herself very improper and annoyed the
policeman as much as possible after being arrested. Her language had
been the most disgusting description. The Bench directed the prisoner
to find the usual amount of bail to be of good behaviour, or, in
default, she was to go Downpatrick for 2 months.
