Quote; Between 1869 and 1948, over 115,000 children immigrated to Canada from the United Kingdom, funded by a number of benevolent organizations with assistance from the governments of the day. The lives of these children were forever changed by this migration, for better or worse.
September 28th has been set aside in Canada (and in Ontario) to honour these young migrants and their contributions to their new country. It is estimated that today there are about four million Canadian descendants of British Home Children. 2019 marks the 150th year since the first British Home Children arrived in Canada. This year the British Home Children Advocacy and Research Association has asked communities in Canada and the UK to participate in the Beacons of Light for BHC tribute by illuminating memorials, monuments, buildings or other areas with the colours of the BHCARA. It is a symbolic gesture showing these children are not forgotten. https://bit.ly/2lVQQcP Cheers!
