Magistrates Colonel EVANSON; Captain PRESTON

Accused - James M'KENNA Sarah M'KENNA, Susan M'KENNA Mary M'CLUSKY and
Mary LOPIN

Charge - Taking forcible possession of premises from which they had
been evicted.

Result - Mary M'CLUSKY was put under a rule of bail; the cases against
James and Sarah M'KENNA were allowed to stand; and Mary LOPIN was sent
to jail for a month with hard labour.

NOTE The defendants were all evicted tenants of Dacre HAMILTON. They
were charged with going into possession of premises from which they
had been evicted. Those of the accused, who promised to settle with
their landlord, were not punished.

Note - The charge against defendants was that they, with others,
groaned, while with a band and a crowd, passing the house of a man
named MARRON.

Note - It was alleged in this case that the defendant used
intimidation towards two men to prevent them from working for a person
who

Accused Margaret MURREA

Charge - Forcible possession
Result - Withdrawn
Note - This prosecution was withdrawn in Court upon the accused, who
was an evicted tenant, undertaking not to go back again to the farm
from which she had been evicted.

21st August 1888
Magistrates - Captain PRESTON; J.C.H. MANSFIELD

Accused - Mary SMITH
Charge - Forcible possession
Result Allowed out to come up for judgment when called on. Note- The
accused was a widow who had been evicted. She was released by the
Magistrates on giving an undertaking that she would not again resume
possession.

2nd Oct. 1888
Magistrates - Colonel EVANSON; Captain MANSFIELD

Accused - Mary DUFFY, Catherine DUFFY and Bernard DUFFY
Charge - Retaking possession of a farm from which they were evicted
Result - Cases withdrawn
Note - Those were evicted tenants of Sir John LESLIE, who, at his
instance, were prosecuted for being found in possession of houses from
which they had been evicted. The cases were at first adjourned for
some days and at the rehearing, the agent stated to the court that the
parties had come to terms, and accordingly, the case was withdrawn.

19th Dec. 1888
Magistrates Col. EVANSON; Capt. TOWNSEND

Accused - Mary SMITH and Sarah SMITH
Charge - Taking forcible possession
Result - 14 days imprisonment each
Note - The solicitor for the defendants stated to the court that they
had several times tendered the amount which they had been evicted for,
but it was refused.19th Dec. 1888
